Trémaouézan parish enclosure
Why take advantage?
A small, intimate community, Trémaouézan is home to a treasure that never ceases to amaze visitors: an extremely rich parish enclosure, some elements of which are comparable in every way to the largest enclosures in the region.
Notre-Dame de Trémaouézan church was built around 1500. The contemporary Gothic ossuary is decorated with animal figures.
From the end of the 16th century, the threat of epidemics exacerbated the religious fervor of the people, who flocked in pilgrimage to this parish with 2 sacred fountains (one under the patronage of the Virgin Mary, the other under that of Saint John the Baptist). It was thanks to this impetus that, for over a century, the church was repeatedly remodeled and considerably enlarged, giving us today a blend of Gothic and Renaissance styles.
The quest for excellence is everywhere: a monumental Renaissance porch was built in 1610, and houses one of the most remarkable ensembles chiseled by Landerne sculptor Rolland Doré: the statues of the Apostles (note the moon sculpted above the canopies crowning the apostles).
Inside, the various Baroque altarpieces are models of their kind, with their rich polychromy, meticulous carving and well thought-out layout. Like the baptistry (which recalls the episode of Christ's baptism), these ensembles offer a highly imaginative interpretation designed to enlighten the faith of the faithful.
The Trémaouézan enclosure is brimming with the most surprising details for those who take the time to discover them!
Note: keys to the church can be collected from the town hall during opening hours.
